The Sisterhood - Gift - The Album

Courtesy of Dark Circle Room

From Discogs:-
In 1986 estranged Sisters Of Mercy members Wayne Hussey & Craig Adams began touring as The Sisterhood. On a revenge streak Andrew Eldritch immedietly enlisted the help of minions Alan Vega (Suicide), Lucas Fox (Motorhead), Patricia Morrison (The Gun Club), James Ray (James Rays Gangwar) and his old mechanical buddy Doktor Avalanche to record an album and release it in a week to remove the name The Sisterhood from the available catalogue of Sisters related names open to Hussey & Adams. The resulting album was rushed and underproduced but at the same time is a mid 80s gem of industrial music with a definite Sisters Of Mercy feel. Eldritch himself does not officially appear on the album due to record company contract but he did produce and write all the material."

Note: Colours was re-recorded as a Sisters of Mercy track for the B-Side of the This Corrosion EP and Giving Ground as been in and out of the live setlist of the Sisters for over a decade.

The Sisterhood - Gift - Giving Ground

The first single was "Giving Ground" slightly rougher than the final album version and with an instrumental on the B-Side.

The Sisterhood - Gift - Wiki

From Wikipedia:-

The Sisterhood was a short-lived English musical project, consisting of Andrew Eldritch (writer and producer), drum machine "Doktor Avalanche", Lucas Fox (drums), Patricia Morrison (bass and vocals), James Ray (guitar and vocals) and Alan Vega (synthesizer and vocals). Vega provided vocals on "Colours" and "Giving Ground".

History

The band was formed by Eldritch after the 1985 break-up of his band The Sisters of Mercy. There had supposedly been an agreement among band members that, in the event of the band splitting up, Eldritch would retain the rights to the songs and the names, while the ex-Sisters would play their old songs under the name of "Sisterhood". When some of the other musicians started touring as The Sisterhood, Eldritch felt that this name was too similar to that of the Sisters of Mercy: he therefore decided to record an album using this name in order to preclude the other musicians from using it. He enlisted Patricia Morrison, formerly of The Gun Club, and Alan Vega of the New York outfit Suicide.

Discography

The Sisterhood released one LP, Gift, in 1986 on Eldritch's own Merciful Release label, which includes "Giving Ground" and four other songs. Not named after the English word but rather the German word for poison, Gift is quite simple with its long, droning rhythms and ill sentiment ("what you have lost can never be found" and "trust lies broken, and the truth is drowned") towards former members of the Sisters of Mercy, especially Wayne Hussey.

Their first release was the single, "Giving Ground", featuring two versions of the song.

On "Jihad", Patricia Morrison recites the numbers 2-5-0-0-0 several times. According to rumours this is a reference to the amount of money that Eldritch won from The Mission in the civil courts after suing them over the ownership of the name "The Sisterhood".
